More Information about Holy Communion
United Methodists, like most other Protestant Christians, celebrate two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion, also known as The Eucharist or The Lord’s Supper. We believe that God is present and active through the sacraments in a very special and important way, and we invite to the table “all who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another” (United Methodist Hymnal, “Service of Word and Table 1”). We celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of every month, on Christmas Eve, and during Holy Week on Maundy Thursday. The service of Holy Communion takes place during a regular or special worship service, and upon request, during a wedding or funeral.
Members and non-members are invited to celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion. We commonly serve bread in individual pieces and grape juice in small cups. Occasionally we use the method called “intinction” where we dip the piece of bread into a common cup of grape juice. Children are welcome to participate along with their parents/guardians.
