More Information about Baptism

United Methodists, like most Protestant Christians, celebrate two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. We believe that God is present and active through the sacraments in a special and important way, and thus we welcome infants, youth, and adults for baptism.

Any member of Epworth UMC may sponsor a child or youth for baptism, and adults may offer themselves for baptism. We typically hold the service of baptism in the church sanctuary during a regular worship service, because the congregation shares responsibility for nurturing the baptized person in the Christian faith. Once baptized, a child or youth is placed on the Preparatory Roll until they are confirmed into full membership. A recently-baptized adult may be admitted as a full member after consultation with the pastor.  Persons interested in being baptized may contact the pastor to arrange a consultation and date for the service.
