Learn about our church and what to expect.

  • What should I expect?

Expect to be welcomed and accepted just as you are in a friendly and relaxed environment.  Epworth UMC of James Island offers one worship service at 10:30 each Sunday in our Sanctuary.  We gather a few minutes before 10:30 for announcements and prayer requests. Each service includes both traditional and contemporary music, a Bible-based sermon, and a children's sermon. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.

Sunday school classes for all ages meet from 9:15-10:15 with one of our adult classes meeting at 9:00.  Call the church for more information.

  • Where do I go when I arrive?

We have two entrances off Camp Road - use either entrance.  Park behind the church in the parking spaces provided, on the west side of the church in the Visitor parking spaces, in regular empty parking spaces, or on the grass. You may also drive on the grass up to the front door to drop off individuals who may need accessibility assistance.

No matter where you park, head toward the sanctuary at the front of the building for worship at 10:30 a.m. or enter either side entrance to go to classrooms and nursery.

  • Will I fit in?

Without question—and if for any reason, you do not feel that is the case, please talk to us about it. If anyone does not feel welcome or accepted in our community, we feel that is our problem and we want to know about it and work to change it.

  • What is expected of me?

We don't want you to feel like anything is expected of you. We want you to feel like our guests—and we promise not to put you on the spot while you are visiting or stalk you after you leave, but we hope you will provide your contact information using one of the pew cards. What we do expect from everyone is a baseline of loving and accepting all people. We are committed to openly and lovingly journeying together.

  • Is childcare or nursery provided?

The nursery is staffed during Sunday school and worship services with adults who are trained in Safe Sanctuary policies and procedures.

Children from birth through five years of age may stay in the nursery during Sunday school and worship. Some parents choose to take their children to the worship service and then take them to the nursery after the children's sermon (through age 5).
